Director’s Message from Dan Margolien:
I don’t know all of you yet, but am looking forward to the opportunity. In December I became the new Yankee Chapter Director, as Will Paley stepped down. Will accomplished several of his key goals, one of which was the awesome Yankee Road Run in the Berkshires. I will work hard for the club. The Yankee motto is “Ride ‘Em Don’t hide ‘Em”, and that is what we do best. This year will afford plenty of opportunities to get our machines out for our enjoyment. It is rewarding to see how much others enjoy our old iron. Whether gassing up or stopping for coffee, all manner of folks approach us and look over the bikes and relate a tale of their own youth, or some one they knew with “a bike like that”. We are planning a Road Run in Down East Maine for 2009, so we can really ride the wheels off ‘em. OUR Chapter is one of the oldest and largest in the AMCA with over 210 members. WE have one of the longest running meets in Hebron in August, and with our now regular Sterling in September we have plenty to offer in the way of activity. Don’t forget to check the event calendar and get down to the Dinosaur meet in Bridgewater June 1 this year. As a supporter of this meet, our turn out can help make it a great one day show. Our club, like all, runs on the enthusiasm of our members. This year I hope to see our core membership expanded with the volunteerism of new faces at our meets help to coordinate activities and making them run smoothly. We have a workers list we’ve developed to help those that want to volunteer get a chance. We’ve got a great list now and shortly I’ll be contacting those on the list to coordinate the Yank’s at the Dinosaur, Rhinebeck, Hebron, and Sterling. These activities don’t just happen, but occur through the efforts of club members. Whether it is collecting gate fees, selling merchandise, or walking a new member through the judging process, there is plenty to do for everyone, and everyone’s participation is necessary to keep our club strong and growing. A lot has been written and said about Rhinebeck, and this is a super meet in our backyard (don’t forget to register your machine for the Timeline). But I’d like to see us build Hebron, right in our front yard. I’ve received a lot of positive feedback about the quality of our meet at Hebron, and especially about the quality of the people of Yankee Chapter. Hebron is set up to be a very good time. It occurs during a big gap in other antique meets, and draws a regular crowd. We have a very nice location, with good facilities and services nearby. I am asking for a 100% club turn out this year. That’s right- I’m asking for every single member of the Yankee Chapter to come to Hebron and bring a machine for display. I want every vendor to come out, and every vendor to bring a vendor. I envision the best Hebron we have ever had. There is no reason it can’t be this way. And many reasons it should. Put it on your calendar right now. August 1 and 2. Take the vacation day. Sell some parts, ride the run, take part in the activities. I’d like to hear from you. How can the club be better? What would you like to see at the meets? What can you do for the club? What are your gifts to give; of time, of talent, of enthusiasm? Call me at 978-764-5587 between 7 pm and 10 pm or write to me at danmargolien@yahoo.com and tell me what’s on your mind. I look forward to 210 phone calls.
